Students Stage Protest

Rock Springs, Wy – More than 200 students at East Junior
High School in Rock Springs staged walkouts to show support for
their principal whose contract was not renewed for next year.
The students first walked out of school Wednesday morning for a
sit down protest on the school's front lawn.
But they stopped when principal Lu Sweet told them to return to
class.
However, some students later walked out of the school in the
early afternoon. Some of the students said that they thought it is
more important to their education that Sweet remain principal than
for them to sit in class.
Superintendent Paul Grube has said he could not discuss why he
recommended that Sweet's contract not be renewed because it is a
personnel issue.
