Three sisters from Wisconsin who went missing a few days ago while backpacking in the Gros Ventre Wilderness were successfully found Thursday morning. A back country guide was the one to spot someone wearing a white rain jacket in an area far from established trails. He phoned the Teton County Sheriff’s office this morning and the search team immediately sent a helicopter to the area.
Megan, Erin and Kelsi Andrews-Sharer were rescued in a remote area in upper Horse Creek drainage, about seven miles away from where their vehicle was found on Wednesday. Rescuers say the hikers were cold, wet and hungry but otherwise in good health. They say that because they chose to stay together and had packed appropriate gear in case of such an emergency, they were able to wait out their ordeal.
They were flown by helicopter to the Swift Creek trailhead and re-united with their father.
