Cheyenne, Wy – The city of Torrington has cleared another
hurdle in its effort to land the new state prison.
The Wyoming House Friday gave preliminary approval to placing the new medium-security prison in the Goshen County seat.
Representatives from Rawlins and Riverton failed to sway the majority from adopting a recommendation by the Corrections Department that Torrington is the best site.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jack Landon of Sheridan said that while errors might have been made by the department in its site-selection scoring system, he said NONE of the mistakes were "fatal."
The measure faces two more readings in the House and, if passed there, heads to the Senate.
