Two Drilling Rig Deaths in Wyoming Last Month

Casper, WY – Two drilling rig workers died in separate
accidents last month in Wyoming.

The Wyoming Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating both accidents.

A Wyoming OSHA official says they are the first drilling fatalities in Wyoming since February 2007.

Fifty-six-year-old Sam Aurther, of Lander, died June 23 while working on a rig drilling near Thermopolis.

Authorities in Sublette County say 24-year-old Eric Tuscan-Rice Jr. died June 24 after a pipe fell and struck him on the head. The accident happened on the north end of the Pinedale Anticline natural gas field.

Tuscan-Rice worked for Nabors Drilling, a contractor for Shell Exploration and Production.
