U-W Alumni Database Breached
Laramie, Wy – The University of Wyoming is investigating
a possible security breach involving the database the college keeps on all its alumni.
Robert Aylward is vice president for information technology and leading the investigation.
He stressed that it isn't known whether a breach actually occurred and there was no hacking from anyone outside the university into the Advance Alumni Database.
He says the investigation centers on whether someone who already work with the database may have had a higher level of access than permitted.
About 20 people have access to the system, but Aylward says "less than a handful" have the ability to download or change information in the system.
Aylward isn't sure how long the investigation could last.
