Cheyenne, WY – The Wyoming Department of Employment says the state unemployment rate rose very slightly from December to January. Economist David Bullard says Wyoming is still losing jobs, but not as quickly as it was at other points in the past year: "Unemployment continues to edge up - up to 7.6% in January - but the job losses seem to be slowing."
The December rate was 7.5%. Bullard says the number of jobs lost from December to January is consistent with the usual losses at that time of year. But he says it's hard to predict what that means for the state's economy going forward. Wyoming's unemployment rate remains well below the national rate of 9.7%.
