Laramie, WY – A company planning a uranium recovery operation in southern Campbell County has begun seeking a federal permit for the project.
Energy Metals Corporation is the first company in almost two decades to apply for a Nuclear Regulatory Commission permit for an in situ uranium project.
Rather than digging out uranium ore, the process involves extracting uranium ore from chemicals that are pumped underground.
The process already is being used elsewhere in Wyoming. The NRC received Energy Metals' application earlier this month.
Officials with the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality also are expecting to get a permit application from the company soon.
