US Trade Rep Would Fight Wyoming Soda Ash Tariff

Green River, WY – The nominee to lead the Office of the
U-S Trade Representative is promising to fight Brazil's import tariff on Wyoming soda ash.
Susan Schwab says that if she's confirmed, she will press Brazilian trade officials to lower the tariff.
Wyoming U-S Senator Craig Thomas says the tariff violates trade agreements the U-S has with Brazil. And Thomas says it's hurting Wyoming's soda ash industry financially.
Soda ash is used in a variety of products, including glass and detergents. The vast majority of soda ash in the United States is processed from trona mined in Wyoming's Green River Basin.
