UW approves budget

Laramie, Wy – University of Wyoming Trustees approved a relatively flat standard budget for
the next biennium. The proposal, which goes to the Governor, includes money to
expand Wyoming Public Radio's signal and money for Brucellosis research. U-W
is not requesting any money for pay raises. University President Tom Buchanan
says they are going to sit tight for now. "It doesn't seem to make much sense to me that as we are cutting budgets that we would step forward with aggressive new requests. When the state economy rebounds, we will be ready to step forward."
U-W is asking the legislature to fund 30 million dollars out of the Abandoned Mine
Lands Account for energy research including a major carbon sequestration
project.
