Laramie, WY – The President of the University of Wyoming and others in the state say a federal livestock disease laboratory should remain in Laramie and not be moved to Iowa.
Scientists study diseases including West Nile virus and bluetongue at the Arthropod-Borne Animal Disease Research Laboratory on the University of Wyoming campus. UW President Tom Buchanan has called for the lab to stay in
Laramie. He says President Obama's budget proposal calls for moving
the lab to Ames, Iowa, even though UW has offered to collaborate
with the Laramie lab.
Wyoming Department of Agriculture Director Jason Fearneyhough
says having the lab in Wyoming is good for the
state's cattle and sheep producers.
