UW Students to Help State with Investments

Laramie, Wy – Eight University of Wyoming students have received the go-ahead to invest up to a million dollars of the state's money.
Although the students first floated the idea to the State Loan and Investment Board last year, it wasn't until last week that final details were hammered out and permission was granted.
The students are finance majors studying under professor Walt Werner.
The plan is for them to come up with investment ideas on their own, then evaluate those ideas as a group. The group must vote unanimously on an equity before forwarding it to the treasurer's office as a recommended investment.
The students expect to advise on a fund of 500-thousand dollars this semester. That could increase by another 500-thousand dollars
this fall.
