Laramie, WY – The state's tuition assistance program for veterans has proved so popular that it's almost out of money.
The program was created in 2006. It offers Wyoming residents who served overseas and were honorably discharged up to 10 free semesters at the University of Wyoming or any of the state's seven community colleges.
Already, 340 Wyoming veterans have received tuition waivers through the program.
Amy Brockel of the Wyoming Community College Commission says the program's $760,000 annual budget will probably be exhausted by spring.
However, Gov. Dave Freudenthal's proposed 2011-12 budget would raise the program's budget to $1 million a year.
