Victims Still Waiting for Results of I-80 Crash Investigation

Laramie, Wy – It's been nine months since a 22-vehicle chain-reaction crash killed six people and injured dozens on Interstate 80 near Elk Mountain.
Yet, the state Highway Patrol still has not released the results of its investigation. That's left victims and their families unable to settle insurance claims or litigation.
The patrol says the state attorney general's office has advised it to withhold the investigation records. They're waiting until prosecutors in Carbon County, where the pile-up occurred, decide whether to pursue criminal charges against some drivers.
The patrol says Carbon County Attorney David Clark gained access to investigation documents five months ago but has not announced a decision about possible charges.
Clark lost his re-election bid in the August primary, and a decision probably won't occur until after the new county attorney takes office next month.
The crash occurred about 90 miles west of Cheyenne when blowing snow cut visibility to almost zero and vehicles began to collide.
