Watchdog Group Concerned About Ethics Violation
By Renny MacKay
Lararmie, Wy – A government watchdog group, the Equality State Policy Center, says the state should investigate the Wyoming Department of Agriculture. The E-S-P-C says the Department of Ag violated the Ethics Act this year by spending state money on a political cause. The group says it does not know if this was done intentionally, but that's why an investigation is needed.
Governor Dave Freudenthal says what the Department did was inappropriate and that hopefully it will learn from the incident, but that it was not malevolent. He also says it is important that other agencies don't make a similar mistake.
The governor says he is willing to send out a statement to all governmental agencies on what exactly the laws are regarding involvement with a political cause.
The director of the Department of Ag did apologize and is going to formalize rules for his agency on this subject.
