WDOT Lacks Snowplow Drivers

Rock Springs, Wy – The Wyoming Department of Transportation
says it will plow some highways less often this winter because it
doesn't have enough snowplow drivers.
The agency says it's having trouble filling many snowplow driver
jobs because drivers can find better-paying jobs in the energy
industry. Experienced truck drivers in the energy industry can earn
up to twice the amount of money that the department pays.
Statewide, 45 of the department's 391 permanent driver positions
are vacant, a rate of about 12 percent.
There are eleven snowplow vacancies in Campbell County.
Department officials say that's half of the state snowplow crew in
Campbell County.
