Wind River, WY – The Wind River Tribal College is reporting its highest enrollment numbers in the school's history this week. With 50 degree seeking students this semester, the college's population has almost doubled since last year and quintupled since the school's first year in 2005. Admissions coordinator, Jordan Dresser, says the school's involvement in the community over the years may be what is driving increased enrollment.
I think it's just kind of showing that tribal colleges are something that people really turn to and I think it's showing a trend in Indian communities, especially ours, and we're getting more and more out there and more and more people are hearing about us.
Wind River Tribal College offers a two year program and serves an all-native student body. It offers both basic courses, like math and science, and culturally specific courses, like Shoshone language and Arapaho studies.
The college is one of 36 tribal colleges in the United States, and the only one in Wyoming.
