Wyo coal shipments break records

Laramie, WY – Railroad traffic coming out of Wyoming's Powder River Basin is setting a new record nearly every month. Union Pacific and Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroads ship the majority of the state's coal to markets across the country. U-P reported its best September ever when it loaded more than 17-million tons of coal on 11-hundred trains last month alone. Pat Hiatte (HYATT) is a B-N-S-F spokesman. He says his company is also setting records. B-N-S-F reported its third-quarter earnings rose 8 percent, beating Wall Street expectations. And coal mines are also posting records.
