Wyo Wants to Collect Sales Tax on Web Purchases

Washington, D.C. – A Wyoming state tax official was in Washington, D-C, today (Tuesday) to talk about how the modern economy has complicated sales tax collections.
Dan Noble is administrator of the Wyoming Department of Revenue's Excise Tax Division. He told a Senate finance
subcommittee that purchases made online, through catalogs or by other remote means often go untaxed.
Noble says the only efficient way to collect sales taxes in the modern economy is to require that taxes are collected at the point of sale.
Wyoming Senator Craig Thomas chairs the subcommittee, and Senator Mike Enzi also testified.
Enzi says a bill he's introduced would treat all retailers the same, giving them equal responsibility in collecting sales taxes.
