Wyoming Athletes Come Up Short In Athens
Athens, Greece – Defending gold medalist Rulon Gardner was a surprising upset loser this time at the Summer Olympic Games in Athens. The Afton native lost four-to-one in overtime to his Kazakhstan opponent in overtime in the Greco-Roman wrestling semifinals. Gardner will need to win later Wednesday in order to earn a bronze medal. Meanwhile, another Wyoming athlete who grew up in Casper made her bid for gold Tuesday, but came up short. Barb Lindquist of Alta finished ninth in the women's triathlon. She says more than a minute and a half behind the winner from Austria.
