Wyoming brucellosis panel faces crossroads

Green River, WY – The Wyoming Brucellosis Coordination Team is scheduled to meet Thursday in Lander. Team Chairman Frank Galey says one discussion topic will be whether to continue meeting next year.

The task force, appointed by Gov. Dave Freudenthal, will discuss whether to continue meeting after Freudenthal leaves office early next year.

Brucellosis is a bacterial disease that can cause miscarriages in bison, elk and cattle. Some cattle in Wyoming have contracted brucellosis in recent years, leading to a period of additional regulations for the state's livestock industry.

Freudenthal created the task force in 2004 to help decide how to manage the disease in the state.
