Wyoming Department of Ag Opposes Ban on Horse Slaughter
Laramie, Wy – Wyoming officials say they will continue to oppose a bill that will ban the slaughter of horses intended for overseas shipment and consumption. At the urging of several agriculture related organizations Wyoming Representative Barbara Cubin voted against the measure that passed and will head to the U-S Senate. State Agriculture Director John Etchepare opposed the bill because it takes away an option for horse owners to dispose of sick or injured horses. He uses the example of a horse that requires a lot of care and then the owner of that horse passes away.
Etchepare fears that some of these horses may end up being starved to death. The bill was opposed by over 200 horse and agriculture organizations.
