Wyoming Eliminated From Futuregen Project

Laramie, Wy – The FutureGen clean-coal facility will NOT be coming to Wyoming. Two communities in Illinois and two in Texas are finalists. Senator Mike Enzi notes that it was tough to overcome the clout of Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert of Illinois and President Bush. Governor Dave Freudenthal also expressed disappointment, but notes that a high altitude facility might be a future option for the state. Senator Craig Thomas says it is critical for such a facility to be built in the west.
The project could bring an estimated one-thousand construction jobs and 150
permanent jobs to the winning community.
