Wyoming excelling at spending stimulus money on highways

Laramie, WY – The Wyoming Department of Transportation is among the top state highway agencies in the country in terms of completing work funded by the federal economic stimulus program.
The Wyoming Department of Transportation has paid to contractors 94 percent of the more than $157 million dollars it received in federal economic stimulus money for highway projects. The department says only a few departments nationwide have paid that much, while the national average is 64 percent.
Del McOmie is chief engineer for the highway department. He says the department was the first to obligate 100 percent of its federal stimulus funds.
