Wyoming Grad Rate Could Be Better

Laramie, Wy – Wyoming's high school graduation rate is
better than the nationwide average, but still 1 in 4 Wyoming
ninth-graders fail to graduate on time, a national group says.
The Alliance for Excellent Education says the nationwide
graduation rate is 70 percent, while Wyoming's graduation rate is
76 percent.
The group says dropouts earn less and as a result are likelier
to use up more tax money through social services than they pay in
taxes.
The Wyoming Department of Education takes issue with the
alliance figure for Wyoming's graduation rate. The department says
the rate in 2006 was close to 82 percent.
