Wyoming hospitals concerned about proposed federal cuts
Laramie, Wyo. – As Congress continues negotiations over the federal budget and debt ceiling, Wyoming hospitals are concerned about what proposed cuts to Medicare and Medicaid would mean for their bottom lines.
Dan Perdue of the Wyoming Hospital Association says cuts would have a significant impact. "Medicare and Medicaid make up over half of the revenue that hospitals experience on a day to day basis," he said. "We already have some thin margins in our hospitals and the prospect of losing any more money comes with a lot of concern."
Perdue says that hospitals will also be forced to spend money to meet requirements of the new federal health care law. He says he does not know how individual hospitals will handle the cuts, if they do go through.
