Wyoming lawmakers oppose changes to Clean Water Act
Laramie, WY – Wyoming's congressional delegation is among 17 Western Republican lawmakers who oppose changing the Clean Water Act to apply to all surface water in the United States, not just navigable waters.
The Clean Water Restoration Act is sponsored by Wisconsin Sen.
Russ Feingold and 24 other Democrats. The bill attempts to clarify
the Clean Water Act after the U.S. Supreme Court cast doubt on
whether the act applies to non-navigable waters.
Wyoming's Republican Sens. Mike Enzi and John Barrasso and Rep.
Cynthia Lummis have signed a letter to House and Senate leaders
saying the bill would give the federal government "virtually
unlimited regulatory control."
Barrasso says the government shouldn't regulate "mud puddles
and prairie potholes."
