Wyoming Spending Enough on Smoking Prevention

Laramie, Wy – Wyoming is one of the few states in the nation that spend an adequate amount on smoking prevention. That's the view of the American Lung Association. It says Wyoming is among a group of five states that use a significant amount of money from the tobacco settlement to prevent tobacco use and addiction. Other states have taken the money and put it into other programs.
The executive director of the American Lung Association of the Northern Rockies, Dick Paulsen, says the concern in Wyoming now is losing ground because tobacco companies spend 30 million dollars a year in Wyoming on advertising.
Paulsen says the current legislature and governor are responsible for increasing the amount Wyoming spends on tobacco prevention. That total is just over seven million dollars a year.
