Laramie, WY – While some think the state should give property owners a break on their taxes this year, the Wyoming Taxpayers Association opposes such a move.
Director Erin Taylor argues that for the state to maintain the services it offers, citizens need to help pay some of the bills.
Taylor notes that right now, the average family of four receives more then nine times in services than what they contribute in taxes. She mainly objects to across the board tax breaks that are being proposed in some bills that will go before legislators this year.
Taylor also says that Wyoming should have a broad tax discussion before it takes any steps. For instance, she notes that while some want to give homeowners a tax break, others want to increase taxes to pay for community colleges. Taylor adds that without a tax policy, such inconsistencies will likely continue.
