Yellowstone National Park Earth Day Celebration Saturday

Wikimedia Commons

Yellowstone National Park is partnering with area businesses to throw an Earth Day celebration on Saturday.

April 22nd was the forty-fifth anniversary of Earth Day. Yellowstone Environmental Coordinating Committee representative Rebecca Owens says the park will celebrate with community cleanups, children’s activities, and environmental education. She says this year there will be local vendors too.

“We invited some local crafts and foods producers to set up tables and not only have samples and some items for sale, but hopefully this supports small businesses and change how we choose to buy things,” she says.

Activities will include free barbeque, face paint, and a solar energy installation. Owens says she thinks it’s important for Earth Day to be rooted in local community.

“The fact that we’re providing educational opportunities not just for what is Earth Day, but how can it be applied to our community so that people really take ownership over it, and care about stewardship of their own environment really brings it home,” she says.

Events will be held all day on Saturday, April 25th at the Gardiner School in Gardiner, Montana.
