Yellowstone's south entrance to open Friday

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. – Yellowstone National Park's south entrance is expected to open to vehicles Friday morning, allowing visitors from the Jackson area access to Lake and Old Faithful.

Park officials say by that time, most visitor facilities will be open at Mammoth Hot Springs and Old Faithful, and limited facilities will be available at Canyon, Fishing Bridge and Grant Village. But they warn the opening of some campgrounds and trails, especially those in the backcountry, could be delayed.

Every spring, crews clear snow and ice from almost 200 miles of main road, about 125 miles of secondary roads and 125 acres of parking lots inside the park, as well as 31 miles of the Beartooth Highway outside the park's northeast entrance.

The park's north, west and east entrances are already open.
