The program has a rich tradition providing listeners a contemporary mix with a variety of styles including singer/songwriters, folk, acoustic, rock, R&B, blues, world, and reggae. New music is a big part of the mix as well as artists from Wyoming and the Rocky Mountain region. You'll also hear live music and interview sessions.

We’re always honored to have Spencer stop by our studios on a visit back to Wyoming. Here, he performs a couple of classics and an original.

People Get Ready

This Saturday, February 28th, Trampled By Turtles will be playing at the Arts and Science auditorium on the University of Wyoming campus. The band has been one of the hottest bluegrass acts in the last decade. Their most recent album, "Wild Animals," was released last July. Mandolin player Erik Berry spoke with Wyoming Public Radio’s Ryan Oberhelman about "Wild Animals" and how the band and its sound has grown over the last decade.

The core female/male singer-songwriter pair of Seadar Rose & Aaron Davis offer rustic harmonies, a diverse mix of acoustic & electric instrumentation, and “a sort of Lennon/McCartney arrangement and get it right every time” (Americana UK).

Seattle singer-songwriter Ian McFeron has dust on his boots from many tours across the country (including quite a few stops in Wyoming), reflected in the stories he weaves through his songs. Here are a couple of favorites from his albums Summer Nights and Time Will Take You; we’re hoping the as yet unreleased ‘Moses’ makes it onto McFeron’s third Nashville studio album, which is currently in the works.

Since forming in 2013, Thunder & Rain has quickly made a name for itself along the Front Range. The band’s “mountain made Colorado country” sound hangs strong hooks and catchy harmonies on classic bluegrass instrumentation.

Their debut album is scheduled for release in January 2015, with tours to follow.

Georgia native Danny Brewer is the front man of indie-folk band Besides Daniel. His songs are deeply emotionally, with natural acoustic riffs and soulful melodies. His third album release, This Marvelous Grief, has been featured on NPR.

Pierce Pettis is one of America’s finest singer-songwriters. His songs have been covered by artists including Dar Williams, Garth Brooks, and Joan Baez. His rich, chiming guitar sound comes from the use of open tunings. Here’s a song that draws from Pierce’s Alabama roots.

Fresh off the 2014 release of ‘Dave and the Gin Mill Gypsies’, Laramie guitarist, singer, and songwriter David Wiatrolik assembles a stripped down trio (Dana Robertson, drums and Luke Woodbury, bass) to perform live at the WPM studios.

The Big Horn Mountain Festival in Buffalo celebrates ten years of roots, bluegrass and Americana music at the Johnson County Fairgrounds, July 11 through 13. Wyoming Public Radio’s Micah Schweizer asked one of the organizers, Paul Jarvis, to remember the festival’s early years.

Wyoming Public Radio presents a rare performance and interview with Jonathan Richman ahead of his show at the historic Hynds Building in Cheyenne Tuesday night, June 24.  Grady Kirkpatrick will talk with Mr. Richman about his music spanning from the early 70’s with the band the Modern Lovers through today. Tune in at 11:15am, only on Morning Music.

Golden, Colorado bluegrass band Thunder and Rain are known for their "Mountain Made Colorado Country" music. Three of the five band members, guitarist and vocalist Erinn Lukes, mandolin player Pete Weber, and banjo player and vocalist R.P. Oates stopped by Wyoming Public Media on June 6. They played a live set on Morning Music ahead of their show on June 7 in Woods Landing.

Seattle singer-songwriter Jill Cohn and her guitarist Dave Sampson stopped by Wyoming Public Media on May 22 and played a live set on Morning Music with Paul Montoya. Jill played at Laramie's Coal Creek Coffee Company the night before. They were accompanied by Jill's well traveled pup Simone.
