Now that Colorado has voted to legalize the regulated sale of marijuana, some law enforcement officers along Wyoming’s southern border are concerned about what that could mean for the Cowboy State.

Medical marijuana is already legal in Colorado. Stores selling pot for recreational purposes will be allowed to open in 2014. The possession of marijuana in any amount is illegal in Wyoming.

Cheyenne Police Chief Brian Kozak says his department has done some preparation for the change.

The Cheyenne Police Department has launched an initiative that’s meant to help the homeless get access to shelter and other services, and keep them out of jail. The cops and the one shelter in town are optimistic about the program. But various advocacy groups have major concerns. Wyoming Public Radio’s Willow Belden reports.
