A new study says energy generated from Wyoming wind could help California residents save up to one billion dollars annually in electricity costs. California’s renewable portfolio standard – or RPS – requires the state to get 33-percent of its energy from renewables by 2020. The Wyoming Infrastructure Authority commissioned the economic analysis.

The Bureau of Land Management hosted two meetings this week to collect public comments on the TransWest high-voltage wind power transmission line. That wasn’t enough for some, who say more opportunity for public input is needed.

The Wyoming Outdoor Council’s Richard Garrett says the federally mandated 90 day comment period is not sufficient. “We, together with a number of other conservation groups, are requesting a sixty-day extension to the comment period. We believe that there are a lot of things that need to be taken into account for this project to move forward,” he added.

The Bureau of Land Management in Wyoming is taking public comments on a long awaited 725 mile long transmission project.  The Trans West Express transmission project was started in 2008 and is intended to take renewable energy from south central Wyoming to Nevada.  Wyoming B-L-M Spokeswoman Beverly Gorney says they’ve had to consider a number of environmental and other issues in the draft environmental impact statement.

A detailed review of a proposed $3 billion power line that would run through Wyoming, Utah, Colorado and Nevada will be delayed about six months.

Under the TransWest Express Transmission Line project's initial timeline, the B-L-M was to have issued a draft plan for the project about now. However, spokeswoman Beverly Gorny says that plan is now expected sometime in the spring of next year.

Gorny says the delay is necessary to review newly proposed alternative routes that have come up during the process of trying to identify where the line should go.
