John Fadial: Ballade From Ysaÿe’s Sonata No. 3

John Fadial teaches violin at the University of Wyoming. On Thursday, April 17 he’ll perform with pianist Theresa Bogard at 7:30 pm at the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. Fadial says the recital emphasizes contemporary repertoire for violin and piano written since 1995, including works by Richard Danielpour, Aaron Jay Kernis, and Arvo Pärt.

First Annual UW Jazz Fest Draws Student Groups From Around The State

The University of Wyoming is hosting its first annual jazz festival Thursday, March 27 and Friday, March 28. Both days are filled with concerts by high school and middle school jazz groups from around Wyoming. Guest artists from around the country will provide feedback to the performers and conduct clinics with the groups. UW professor and festival organizer Scott Turpen says first and foremost, the festival is about education.

Internationally Acclaimed Conductor Directs UW Student Ensembles

Maestro Gerard Schwarz raises his baton at the University of Wyoming. The former Seattle Symphony Orchestra director has 13 Grammy nominations and two Emmy wins to his credit, among numerous other awards. Tonight (Feb. 6), he’ll conduct three university ensembles in a public performance at the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30 PM. UW music department chair Theresa Bogard says Schwarz is honing the student groups’ sound.

Ben Markley and Scott Turpen: And The Wind Came

Ben Markley is a composer and jazz pianist. He is also a visiting Assistant Professor of Music for the University of Wyoming Music Department. Scott Turpen is a saxophonist and Professor at the University of Wyoming Music Department, teaching Jazz Studies. "And The Wind Came" was written and composed by Ben Markley.

UW Music Department announces Faculty Recital Series

The University of Wyoming music department’s fall faculty recital series begins this weekend.

Classical music is a mainstay throughout the series, starting Sunday, August 15 with Nicole Riner and Chi-Chen Wu on flute and piano. But other styles will get an airing too, particularly during October’s Faculty Showcase, where everything from jazz piano to Moldovan pan pipes will be heard.

Piano professor Dr. Theresa Bogard says the series is a chance to put UW’s music department on display.
