Wyoming Public Media's Fundraising Goal For 2016-2017
Fundraising is a year-long ongoing activity. It’s about fund drives, yet it’s about so much more than just fund drives. It’s about the thousands of people who pick up the phone at any time of the year, or log online to make a pledge in the middle of the night. It’s about pushing the overall annual goal just a little bit closer individual by individual, pledge by pledge. 2016 Fall Fund Drive Goal $380,000
Our Individual Fundraising Goal For The Year Of 2016-2017 Is $1.5 million
June 30, 2017, we need to earn $1.5 million in listener and member gifts to support the $2.8 million 2016-2017 operating budget. As of December 9, 2016 we earned $568,494 of the $1.5 million.
By the end of 2019, we need to earn $7 million to reach our “50 Years and Beyond” Campaign goal. As of December 9, 2016 we earned $1,082,494 of the $7 million. Campaign began January 1, 2016. The purpose of this Campaign is to support programming and production, and to build the WPM Endowment.
How much money does WPM need to operate the station?
Our total operating budget is approximately $2.8 million, coming from a variety of sources, individual members being the largest source of funding. In 2016-2017 we need to raise $1,500,000 from individual members to meet our operating obligations.
How does WPM raise the $1,500,000 from individuals?
Fundraising is a year-long ongoing activity. WPM fundraising begins July 1 at the start of every fiscal year, and ends June 30 at its close. Money is collected from sustaining and installment members, one-time donors, donors to specific local programs, and many who give outside of fund drives. Then, we add the Fall and Spring funds drives, which produce a heightened level of excitement and remind many people to renew their pledge, increase it, or join WPM for the first time.
In addition, there are numerous “reminder” opportunities throughout the year, such as year-end drives, one-day drives, drives to increase new members, and others. The overall goal is to beat the clock and reach $1.5 million in pledged contributions by June 30.
And then, we say “thank you” to our donors, and produce great public radio!

November 29th, 2016 was Giving Tuesday, a global day dedicated to the spirit of giving. Not all non-profits can afford radio advertising or underwriting. Listeners became their underwriter!
