More Study Needed Into Pavillion Waste Pits, State Says

Stephanie Joyce

The State has released the second of three reports into the cause of groundwater contamination outside the town of Pavillion, in Fremont County. Many suspect that nearby oil and gas development is responsible. The state released its first report in August. That one looked at whether there were problems with the natural gas wells themselves that could explain the contamination and concluded that more study is necessary. This report examines whether wastewater disposal pits could be the source of pollution, but it too offers little in the way of firm conclusions. Ben Storrow of the Casper Star Tribune covered this latest development and joined Wyoming Public Radio’s Stephanie Joyce to talk about it.
