One Confirmed Dead After Second I-80 Pileup In A Week

I-80 is closed in both directions between Walcott Junction and Laramie after a second pileup in five days. One death and over twenty injuries are confirmed.

The crash happened around 8am Monday morning about 18 miles west of Laramie, when two semis reportedly collided, causing one to jackknife across both westbound lanes.

Around 60 vehicles were involved in the crash, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol. That organization cites cites dense fog and slick conditions as present at the time of the wreck,  and Monday night a man was charged with vehicular homicide. However, by Tuesday that charge had been reduced to a citation for failure to use caution in hazardous conditions.

The interstate will remain closed for an undetermined amount of time.

Last Thursday blizzard conditions caused multiple pileups on I-80 west of Cheyenne. 45 vehicles were involved in the wrecks and dozens were injured, but no fatalities were reported.

This is a developing story. We will update this page as more information becomes available.
