Wyoming volleyball ends season on high note
After a slow start, the University of Wyoming volley ball team went on a strong run and finished with a seven match win streak. The Cowgirls struggled adjusting to first year Head Coach Chad Callihan, but once things clicked the team opened some eyes.
Coach Callihan says that he is proud of the turnaround, but he says it’s just a start, “Next year’s a new season and the success we had at the end of the year, this year, really has no impact on what we do next season”, says Callihan, “we can try to build on it, but every year’s a new year and we’re gonna have to create a new identity with the group that we have and try to make sure that we play at a consistent level.”
Senior Reese Plante says that this year’s team has laid the groundwork for future Cowgirl success.
“Winning seven in a row, finishing fourth, ya know, just letting other teams know that we’re a team they need to be worried about. I mean, I’m definitely proud of those things. Me and the other three seniors have really worked hard to at least build that foundation so that in the next couple of years Wyoming can finish first or second and go to the tournament.”
Plante says the returning players will have a year under Callihan and coupled with the return of some key performers, she is very optimistic about the future of the program.
