I started the Ranch Breakfast Show in 1984 as a half hour live segment at the end of his Saturday regular bluegrass/folk show Pickin’ and Singin’ AM.  When the run of that live show ended in 1985, I decided to keep the name Ranch Breakfast for the 3 hour show that started at 8:00 and ran to 11:00.

Over the years the time has been moved back to accommodate Car Talk and Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me. Bob Beck, our News Director, thinks I should call it Ranch Brunch, but I know that someday when Click and Clack retire and the satire of Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me has lost its appeal, Ranch Breakfast may be returned to its morning slot.

The Big Horn Mountain Festival in Buffalo celebrates ten years of roots, bluegrass and Americana music at the Johnson County Fairgrounds, July 11 through 13. Wyoming Public Radio’s Micah Schweizer asked one of the organizers, Paul Jarvis, to remember the festival’s early years.

Laramie now has two bluegrass jams going.  The Bluegrass Jam at Coal Creek Coffee House happens the third Wednesday of every month from 7:00 till 10:00. (Hey, that’s March 21st.)  Beginners are welcome.  So bring your instrument or come to listen.  The other Bluegrass Jam happens the first Thursday of the month at Night Heron Books on Ivinson Avenue in Laramie.  Let me know if your community has a bluegrass/folk jam and we’ll get it posted.
