Last week out of the blue, the Legislature's Joint Corporations and Elections committee approved a motion to look into moving the elections division out of the Secretary of State's office. The motion is a reaction to comments by Casper Rep. Chuck Gray who's likely going to be the next Secretary of State. He won the primary and is running uncontested in the general election.

Former Vice President Mike Pence spoke to a crowd of regional energy industry leaders in Cheyenne, as part of the Rockies Petroleum Conference.The Vice President was noticeably upbeat and energetic. He opened with a crowd pleaser.

During the state’s election certification, Secretary of State Ed Buchanan and the elections director, Kai Schon, said the state’s elections are fair and secure. Schon said there were a couple of hiccups like a power outage and a flood at election poll sites, but all were taken care of immediately and did not cause major problems.

Incumbent Gov. Mark Gordon will move one step closer to the general election after securing the Republican nomination for governor. This comes after primary opponents Brent Bien, James Scott Quick, and Rex Rammell sought to unseat Gordon, who is nearing the end of his first term in office.
